Nekinan Lodge Visual Identity
Nekinan Lodge is a Métis-owned lodge offering accommodations and event space in Smoky Lake, Alberta. The goal of this rebrand was to create a visual identity that reflects Nekinan Lodge’s mission as a welcoming retreat that blends modern comfort with the rich history and culture of the Métis Nation within Alberta.
The logo icon draws inspiration from traditional Métis floral beadwork and embroidery, featuring the Alberta wild rose and infinity symbol to represent the Métis Nation within Alberta. The Fairplex typeface (Emigre, 2002) complements the design with its angled slab serifs that feel both heritage-inspired and contemporary.
The colour palette is inspired by native plants found in Alberta, each holding traditional medicinal significance within Métis culture. Rich and vibrant heritage tones bring a warm and comforting feel to the brand.
Complementary illustrations of local Alberta plants include the wild rose, coneflower, bearberry, saskatoon berry, yarrow, mint, and harebell.
